A different resolution...

Here we are again ~ a new year ~ another chance to reflect on where we are and where we want to be.  It's the time when we think about things and make changes.  Maybe we want to get our finances in order, maybe develop our careers further, maybe start a family, maybe find love ~ and then there's the ever popular goal of losing weight.  Whatever your goals, the idea is to improve your life and hope things turn out better.

When I think about it, I wonder.  Why do we do this?  What are we really hoping for?  Though the answer may be different for each person, I believe even deeper than that lies our one true desire ~ to be happy!!!  But again, what does that even mean?

Some say they will be happy when they have enough money (whatever "enough" means).  Others believe happiness is being a specific weight.  Still others believe, when the kids finally learn to pick up after themselves, THEN they will be happy.  The reality is, while goals are good things, if we tie them to happiness, then we're missing the point.  True happiness comes from within!  It does not matter if we are dirt poor, weigh too much or too little, or whether others annoy us.  We can be happy either way.  That's the beauty of happiness ~ it does not discriminate!  So this year, try a different resolution ~ be happy no matter what the circumstances (how cliché right!!!)  It might be cliché, but it is true and here's one suggestion that will definitely help:
So often we run through our days, stressed out, grumbling, and annoyed.  After all, we are very important people doing very important things, right?  Hey, I'm just as guilty.  And it is far easier to focus on what is going wrong than right.  Just read the headlines.  But, I have yet to meet someone where everything is going wrong, even in the most overwhelming of circumstances.

Instead of focusing on the bad things, start reflecting on the good and then, remember to SMILE, even if you don't feel like it!  Believe it or not, smiling can be healing and life altering.  This year, make a different resolution.  Decide to go through your days with a smile, see what happens, and as the saying goes ~ "don't worry, be happy!!"
